Twenty Three: woo la wee!

All done. My thoughts: well, some of this I found to be of interest, some of it I found to be useless. But what I did find is that I now know what all this stuff is so am no longer in the dark when I see things like "de.lic.cious" or whatever.
So there ya go!
Some of these things I imagine will go by the lee and some will be used for years.
I use Bloglines now, tho' many of my feeds have gone to "no longer being updated" and it's only been a month.
So, who knows.
But it was def. an interesting experience and was fun for me and all the staff to do!
Et voila, j' suis complete.

Twenty twooo: whoohoo

I've been using Netlibrary for a few years. And helped probably 100s with using it. Both audio and the online books are very very helpful in our jobs here at ASH.
Now, once I get mah fancy MP3 player I'll download a-books to it and sit on planes, etc. with funny look on my face as I listen and act bemused.

Twenty One: Blackjack! Or beerpodjack

Those of you who know me will be shocked that I added http://www.craftbeerradio.com/CraftBeerRadio.xml
to my Bloglines account.
But beer, along with the common porkchop and bacon, tastes good.

twenty! the boss!

"Hide neath yer covers and study yer pain, make crosses..."
The boss from the days when he was still a grubby greaser. Who ruled!!

Oct-teen: Gibberish

All work and no play makes jack a dull boy.

The above line of genius was published via Zoho writer. Which is similar to Zofo....but less Zepplinesque.
Anywhoo: it's a pretty cool tool and would be useful if you needed to bang out and save a document at an internet cafe somewhere in the world like Ghana and get it to someone.
So there ye go.

One more than 18= Frappr Magic Starts Here!!

Ok. I finally found something during this that made me say "uh...whut...?"
I chose "Frappr" and put my self on the map. Then stared at the screen...then clicked about for a bit. Then stared some more. Then went "huh." Then realized there wasn't much more to it and popped to this page to write this up.
Oh well, best laid plans....
Google maps, btw, is awesome beyond compare. Frappr uses it to create some sort of social page. It's lost on me.

7-teen: PBwiki

Super fun. What can one say. Added my comment in fave restaurants about Midget Kitchen. Whose BBQ is so good it maketh me want to weep.

Sextus decimus: E Pluribus Wiki

Well, we don't really trust 'em...but we kind of do. You look at it with Jaundiced eye (where does that saying come from?) and make your decision. MOST of the time the information is bang on.

Still it's a great way to transfer information. I agree with Khan's writing that Bull Run's Wiki is more or less a blog. But the others seem a bit more to the point.

Do I think it's the end all? But useful, yes. As long as your eye is Jaundiced. Better that than a malarial eye, I suppose.

15: Web Deuces Wild

I read "Into a New World of Librarianship" and "Away from the Icebergs."
I rather agree with the first one wholeheartedly...except that while I think we should be "trendspotters" it's really more about reading our customer wants and what our customers use and adapting to it. But he's pretty close to the mark.
Controlling "Technolust" is another bit that I enjoyed. You can get behind technology that dies immediately and end up owning an expensive relic.
I also enjoyed the other article... tho' when he writes:
"In fact, it may no longer make sense to “collect” in the traditional sense at all. In my library, we’ve seen a 55 percent drop in circulation rates over the past twelve years, making it harder and harder to justify the continued buildup of a large “just in case” print collection."
I realize he's made a mistake by generalizing his situation. We at Ashburn see no drop whatsoever in our regular print collection. True CD and VHS are dropping in C/O's and one day they'll be gone. But it's going to be awhile before print is replaceable.
They've being saying that sort of thing since the 50's.

Fourteen: Tagalicious

Hoo ha, I'm-ah tagging, granny:

I utterly failed to claim this, tho' as there was pwrd confusion...too many sign ups. Ah well, the world shall never know of my particular brand of...genius is too strong of a world...idiom?...naaah...oh never mind.
Wait...I did figure it out...methinks it's claimed....
Lookout world! Awkward sentences and poor double entredres to follow!!

Lucky 13: Deeelicious

Found this to be of use...don't know if I would use it but I can see it being useful to others. If I were more of a "mobile" librarian I would find it supremely useful...but I pretty much use the same desk(s).
Still...tis a clever thing this del.icio.us
Must say the security of it's password and naming setup is the most complicated i've used yet. Kicked back my pwrds repeatedly.
Far out, man.

I shall try again at some later.

10: Can of detritus!

Eight and Nine: I'm rollin' fine!

I did this bit of kibble up:
http://www.bloglines.com/blog/blogertainer
Good times! Added loads of feeds and now have all my scattered interests in one semi easy to read spot. We are truly in a golden era.

Robot Terror!

When someone says "write about technology" I almost always think of robots going amok. I dunno why. Too many poorly written and imagined sci fi books/movies methinks.
And yet that Super Bowl ad about the poor robot that got his robottish self fired made me almost cry.
But I ramble. I mean "I always ramble..."
Technology such as what we are doing here is as Gov. Arnold would say is "Fantaztik!"
I can't imagine a world without the internet, etc. One now has to choose between new technologies...shall I get my music from an Ipod, from Satellite, from HD Radio?
What do I do with that pile of records? Make wall paper? Where does defunct tech go?
Does anyone want my copy of Meco's "Star Wars and Other Galactic Funk" that I have?(see what it looked like here: http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Other-Galactic-Funk/dp/B00000J2TO)
That's actually correct. I owned that album. It beats out the Grease soundtrack I once had and ELO's Disco-very album for most embarrassing record purchases. I would also count the Captain and Tenille's greatest hits that my family had on 8 track (speaking of outmoded tech) but I didn't purchase that...just enjoyed it. Now I did also own all the Who's albums as well as Mssr Springsteen's collection sooo...point in my favor.
In summation, technology rules--unless it is robots that have gone berserk.
However if they are the "fancy a pint down the pub" type robots that have gotten all worked up, why then, it would be just fine with me.

Lifeless doll's eyes?

At ease, beasts!

I have a highly trained army of dogs who do my bidding.
Or not.
Mostly not, really, unless my bidding is limited to:
  • staring at me whilst eating
  • bothering cats
  • tussling with ea. other
  • running amok
  • snacking, or as they call it "snackertaining*," on things they find on the ground, etc.
*entertaining onself with snacks
